FOODIE FRIDAY: YOKAI SF
Enter the doors of Yokai on Mission Street SF (formerly Salt House) and the wonderful waft of wagyu being cooked smacks you in the face and at the same time a wall of beautiful sounds feeds your ears.
Miles Davis played as I enjoyed my beautifully orchestrated dinner last night by the hands of the maestro Chef Marc Zimmerman and his talented culinary orchestra:
- Wagyu Gyoza with La-yu Crunch
- Sourdough Seaweed Focaccia
- Savory Herb and Caviar Dip
- Kauai Prawn
- Cherry Blossom Salt
- Barbecued Oxtail
- Sanbaisu, Black Truffle Hot Sauce
- Wild Boar Babyback Ribs
- Tonkatsu Barbecue, Green Apple Sunomono
A sweet ending by way of:
- Ice Cream Stuffed Kakigori
- Ember Stewed Strawberry, Kinako streusel
The cocktails were equally spectacular, gin and whisky from Japan at their core. I had a satsuma G&T: bright, light, refreshing & delish - it did indeed hit the spot.
Yokai, brought to us by the Chef behind high end Gozu - where wagyu beef stars, it also shines here at Yokai but with so many tasty bedfellows. I am coming back for the burger. it’s the food food food at Yokai but your ears are gladdened and nourished as well as your tummy. Yokai SF is open Tuesday - Saturday from 3 P.M. - 9 P.M.
Enjoy my chat with the quiet, brilliant Chef making a noise on Mission Street, downtown SF - Chef Marc Zimmerman at Yokai:
