FOODIE PICK: AVEO, WALDORF DANA POINT
Be transported to Latin America by way of AVEO at the Waldorf Astoria, Dana Point. An approachable, seasonal menu showcases local seafood, prime filets, savory sandwiches, and fresh salads, while also introducing Latin staples:

- pal horno; jamon, pineapple salsa, marinated escabeche
- ceviches; clams, pacific white fish & tuna
- smoked duck tacos; hoja santa, red onion, habanero crema

At the expansive AVEO bar, explore the vivid list of bebidas, including refreshing palomas and margaritas, as well as a signature twist on the authentic Rum & Coke. I'll have to return for the margaritas. The AVEO wine selection is impressive too with delish offerings from North & South America & Europe too.

Come for the food & wine but stay for the coastal views and the warm hospitality. You'll be jolly glad you did. The AVEO, Waldorf Dana Point is open for Breakfast: 7 A.M. - 11 A.M., Lunch: 11 A.M.  - 3 P.M. and Dinner: 5 P.M. - 9 P.M.

INTERVIEW WITH CHEF JP DUBRAY
Enjoy my conversation with Executive Chef Jean-Pierre Dubray. Chef started his U.S. career nearby, opening the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point some 40 plus years ago. He went onto Rancho Mirage and then San Francisco where he was at the helm at the Ritz Carlton through the best of times (1990 - 2008):

MUSIC: STONES "HACKNEY DIAMONDS"
The Rolling Stones record their first  album of new songs in 18 years and deliver 12 rockin' tracks. Guest artists add a little extra celebrity sauce: Paul McCartney on bass & Elton John on keyboards among them.

Lady Gaga screeches for her supper on "Sweet Sounds of Heaven" with Stevie Wonder. Former Rolling Stone bassist Bill Wyman returns for "Live by the Sword" and late drummer Charlie Watts makes the cut on that track as well - a stellar sonic reunion. The final track "Rolling Stone Blues" brings us full circle with the tune that inspired their name some sixty years ago as a fresh, new band.  The wrinkled rockers are now truly the elder statesmen (Mick 80, Keith 79 & Ronnie 77)  on the block and they still rock and deliver the jewels here on "Hackney Diamonds", out now.

INSPIRE: NATIONAL STEM CHALLENGE, ENTER NOW
Know a kid that has a great STEM project? The National STEM Challenge is open for submissions! Creative kids looking to tackle challenges that make a positive impact on our world will get a chance to be flown to Washington DC for the Festival. It only takes a spark to light a rocket. Let's give kids a chance to be seen for the solution seekers and change makers they can be to build our tomorrow.

"Come on Bay Area, we should be the best at inspiring kids into science, technology engineering and math" says Kari Byron, Mythbuster, Crash Test Girl and Now Director of the National STEM Challenge & Festival.

The Festival is co-presented by the U.S. Department of Education and EXPLR.
