Ricardo Bibbs, a 56-year-old transient man, was arrested on May 16 in Redwood City in connection with a fatal stabbing, San Mateo police said on Monday. On May 14, police responded to a SamTrans bus stop at 11 West Hillsdale Boulevard after receiving a report of a man slumped over a bench.

When authorities arrived, they found a 48-year-old man unresponsive with a pool of blood beneath him. The victim, identified as Tedrick Towns, was pronounced dead at the scene.

After canvassing the area for surveillance footage and searching for witnesses, detectives learned that Towns and Bibbs were acquaintances who had engaged in an argument at the bus stop at around 1:40 a.m., leading to Bibbs allegedly stabbing Towns.

Hours later, Towns was discovered by a community member who was waiting for the bus.

Prior to his arrest, Bibbs was a parolee-at-large, had an outstanding warrant and had failed to register as a sex offender, officials said. Bibbs also had two previous convictions for stabbing a person at a bus stop in 2020 and stabbing a person in a vehicle in 2013.
