Are you looking forward to next Tuesday?
On June 15, most COVID-19 restrictions will be dropped, giving Californians a taste of post-pandemic freedom. Among those looking forward to the day is Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf.
“Alameda County has announced that [it] will be following the state guidelines, and that’s a departure from where we started in this pandemic,” Schaaf said. “Alameda County and the Bay Area as a whole had a more conservative approach.”
Outdoors, the masks will come off. Schools, hospitals and some businesses still may require masks.
“We’ll be opening up our libraries on Tuesday,” said the mayor. “Full hours, so people can check out that book, but also have a place to be together.”
Schaaf has already been getting out there and returning to her normal routine, dining recently at one of her favorite local restaurants.
“It was wonderful to see people walking around, still often choosing the outdoor dining option, but starting to come back and support these small businesses that have suffered so much this past year,” she told KCBS Radio.
The mayor noted that many residents have a pent-up desire to be together again.
