In Golden Gate Park, the clean up effort is underway.
Since Tuesday's brutal bashing, crews have moved quickly, sweeping up debris throughout the park. At least eight full grown trees were taken down by the howling winds.
"Windy weather and wet saturated weather can also affect healthy trees, so it's really hard to predict," said Daniel Montez, spokesperson for San Francisco Rec and Parks.
All the recent rain likely contributed to the volume of downed trees across the city. Fred Frey, an arborist with Vintage Tree Care, told KCBS Radio all the moisture following a prolonged drought can be a shock to the system. "That led to trees really not sensing a lot of the load in the soil that they would now that it's wet," he said.
Frey explained that trees support other trees, so when one goes down, it can lead to others. "A tree fails in a tighter environment where there are other trees around it," he said. "The collective protection measures start to fail. Then you get loads that show up that those trees aren't accustomed to."
As a precaution, the Botanical Garden and Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park are closed, along with all athletic fields.
In total, San Francisco saw a 400% increase in 911 calls on Tuesday.
