The Dixie Fire, which has been active for 11 days, destroyed multiple homes in Northern California Saturday night as the blaze intensified.

Dozens of homes and other structures had already fallen prey to the raging fire when it tore through Indian Falls and Paxton in Plumas County on July 24.

CALFIRE reported that one structure is damaged and 16 structures are destroyed.

Officials attributed firefighters' difficulty in containing the blaze to critically low fuel moistures and record-setting Energy Release Components, which measure how hot the fire could burn.

The flames have ravaged 190,000 acres of California land to the northeast of Chico, making the Dixie Fire the state’s largest wildfire with only 21% containment.

Sunday, firefighters are preparing a fire line southwest of Taylorsville to protect the community as the fire advances. Extreme fire behavior is expected again with mass evacuations ordered across the area.

California declared a state of emergency in three counties on Friday due to the Dixie Fire.
