SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Nearly a dozen vehicles caught fire Tuesday morning under Interstate-880 in Oakland at a large homeless encampment.

An RV on Wood Street has been completely gutted by fire. The owner's belongings are charred and scattered across the street, making up just one of the recent vehicle fires.
Nearly one dozen cars were burned overnight at the encampment, according to authorities. Witnesses told police they saw an armed man wearing dark clothes running from the scene just before the flames broke out.
"This place is dangerous," one resident named Miranda told KCBS Radio. She has called the encampment home since March and said she too has been a victim of arson.
"All of my belongings, everything and with the hopes of me being inside, was set on fire with gasoline, so I was left with exactly what I had on and one backpack with a tablet in it," she said.
The fires come one day after CalTrans began phase two of their cleanup operation at the encampment. They're expected to continue Tuesday, leaving dozens of people displaced.
Authorities are unsure if the fires were retaliatory to CalTrans.
No injuries were reported in the fires.
