Alameda County residents were saved by a neighbor Sunday morning when a fire broke out at an assisted living facility.

The blaze ignited at around 3 a.m. in the 200 block of Lewelling Blvd. in San Lorenzo. The Alameda County Fire Department responded to the scene, but a quick thinking neighbor had already contained the fire to a single room.

"The neighbor played a significant role in the outcome of the fire and did an act of great service," Public Affairs Manager Jo Leal said to KTVU.

Fire crews fully extinguished the flames and provided medical assistance for two people injured in the blaze. One patient was transported to a nearby hospital.

Eight residents of the assisted living facility who were displaced by the fire have found a temporary home at a nearby facility.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
