Nine people displaced by two-alarm house fire near Mills College

Oakland fire crews quickly controlled a two-alarm house fire early Monday morning near Mills College.

The Oakland Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at 2:28 A.M. at the 3200 block of Morcom Avenue in the city's Maxwell Park neighborhood.

Crews arrived to large, high-rising flames scorching both the upper floor and rooftop area of the structure.

Fire fighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze around 3 A.M. and no fire fighters or residents were injured, according to Oakland fire spokesman Michael Hunt.

The third floor was gutted and the roof destroyed.

The Red Cross is assisting the nine people, including seven children, who were displaced by the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
