No lines at downtown Oakland polling place on Election Day

In downtown Oakland, voters came by the Convention Center, where the Warriors used to practice, to drop off or fill out their ballots. They were greeted by sunshine and didn't experience the long waits expected on Election Day.

“That’s the coolest way to vote,” said Erica Davis, who came to the polls with her husband. “If people are going to vote, they need to come here.”

She and Duriel Davis came to drop off their ballots, not realizing they were actually going into the Warriors' facility.

“I didn’t know that we were actually going to drop it off in the facility, so it was nice to go up there and see what it looks like, all the decorations and everything,” said Duriel.

It was an added bonus to his already positive outlook on the day.

“I’m feeling really good,” he said. “I woke up, today, in good spirits. So, I’m positive. I think we’re going to have a great outcome.”

For others, this election has caused a lot of anxiety.

“Yeah, I was worried because of the change to the postal service that I wouldn’t be able to mail it in early,” 24-year-old voter Omar Khatib told KCBS Radio.

He said that the process ended up being easy, but he hopes other young voters weren’t deterred.

“Historically, there’s been a lot of apathy from my generation, based on the candidates available for selection,” Khatib added.

He’s hoping this year will be different.
