Located under the BART tracks in Jack London Square, Angel Cakes is known for its decadent cupcakes. There's been an outpouring of support for Angel Cakes owner Jennifer Angel.
Angel was leaving a parking garage on Webster Street when a car pulled in front of her, blocking her in. Someone then smashed her car window and grabbed something from the vehicle. Angel ran after the suspect, somehow getting caught in the car and as the suspects drove off she was dragged over 50 feet, hitting her head multiple times.
"I'm very concerned for her, her bakery's a big part of this neighborhood and Oakland," a resident of Jack London Square told KCBS Radio.
Angel's longtime friend and activist Matt Leonard told KCBS Radio the 48-year-old is on life support in a medically induced coma. "People are used to her being the one to bring people together to navigate grief or crises," he said. "It's a hard transition for us to have to bring ourselves together without her."
Friends and family have started a GoFundMe, which has so far raised over $87,000. The donations will go to medical care for Angel, support during this transition for her partner Ocean in covering household and related expenses, her mother's traveling expenses and for Angel Cakes bakery.
The robbery remains under investigation by the Oakland Police Department.
