One of the largest churches in the Bay Area celebrated Easter Sunday by opening its doors for in-person services for the first time in more than a year.
There was dancing and clapping to the rousing music at the Acts Full Gospel Church in Oakland, even though only half of its more than 3,000 chairs were filled because of the pandemic.
Diane Cross got all dressed up for the occasion.
“It feels so, so awesome,” she said. “I’m just so grateful for this day and I’m glad that I’m able to go inside right now and give God the glory. I’m just so happy.”
Teresa Murray has spent a year watching the church services online.
“It feels great,” she said about being able to attend an in-person service. “I’ve missed my church. It’s been over a year, so I’m excited to get back in here and praise God in fellowship with everyone.”
One churchgoer told KCBS Radio that hand sanitizer and masks were everywhere, every other row was closed and temperatures were checked before entry to the joyful holiday service.
