Oakland police are investigating a dead body found in a burned car early Wednesday morning in East Oakland.

Police responded to the incident at the 3300 block of Delaware Street just before 3 a.m., the Oakland Police Department told the San Francisco Chronicle. Responding to a report of a person inside a burned vehicle, officers found a dead victim.

Based on the circumstances of the person’s death, police told the paper that the incident is being classified as a homicide. It's the third homicide investigated in Oakland within the first five days of 2022, according to the outlet.

Officers are waiting to disclose the victim's identity until the family is notified, authorities told the paper.

The Oakland Police Department didn’t respond to KCBS Radio's request for comment.
