A COVID-19 clinic that was abruptly closed in downtown Oakland last week has suddenly reopened.

The free walk-up clinic, located in Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, offers all three COVID-19 vaccinations, as well as antigen, antibody and PCR tests.

Many people were perplexed in early December when the clinic closed its doors, canceling booster shot appointments with little notice. "I made my appointment on December sixth and it was canceled immediately," a frustrated East Bay resident told KCBS Radio. Some patients were even sent to the wrong address.

Clinic operators explained that the closure was due to a leasing issue with the city, but Oakland Fire Department said it was because of a shortage of both staff and vaccines.

The clinic is now up and running without issue as the city urges residents to get their vaccine and booster. One man receiving his booster shot told KCBS Radio that he does not understand why someone would be hesitant to receive the vaccine, calling the debate "perplexing."
