The roughly 60-foot branch dropped "suddenly" from a large tree in Washington Park, killing a San Mateo resident, officials said.

The park is located directly in front of Burlingame High School and is a popular picnic spot.

"We express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the person who passed away and our wishes for a speedy recovery for the two people in the hospital," the post read.
