In yet another step towards experiencing baseball as we knew it, the San Francisco Giants have earmarked certain sections at home games next month for fully vaccinated fans only.
The idea is to accommodate groups bigger than a four person pod such as office groups, and little league teams.
With the addition of vaccinated-only sections, the team also announced that they expect to increase capacity at Oracle Park to 50% in May, up from 22% to start the season.
Giants CEO Larry Baer said both changes come just in time for some highly anticipated homestands.
“Games with the Padres and the Dodgers are who we think are going to be our big rivals this year, the Dodgers obviously are always big rivals,” Baer said. “So we’ve got these very high profile series in May and the vaccination sections will allow us to have more people in the ballpark.”
Oakland A's President Dave Kaval said they're hoping to do the same but for areas where groups were already known to congregate.
“We have a lot of space no doubt, but obviously places like the Tree House or Shibe Park (Tavern) are where people typically gather closer,” Kaval said. “If they were vaccinated sections, then you’d have the opportunity to not have the social distancing.”
