
A plane crashed near Monterey Airport in Monterey County late Tuesday morning.
The plane was a Golden Eagle Cessna plane, the California Highway Patrol said. The aircraft is believed to be a two-engine plane, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.
The crash caused the home to catch fire, as well as various spot fires nearby, according to a Monterey County Fire District spokesperson.
With assistance from CAL FIRE crews and mutual aid from nearby cities of Monterey and Seaside, firefighters were able to contain the fire to about 1/8 of an acre.
The home is a single-family dwelling located in the Monterra Ranch subdivision east of the city of Monterey, near National Highway 68 and National Highway 218.
The number of injured and the extent of the damage are unknown at this time.
It’s also not yet clear if the house’s occupants were inside at the time of the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.
