When the Pleasant Hill Police Department arrived at the scene at around 11:15 p.m., authorities said they found three people loitering near the back of the gas station and determined that one suspect had been setting off fireworks.

The suspect was arrested and booked into jail on multiple charges. His SUV was also moderately damaged by the fireworks due to an accident while setting them off.

"Regardless of the type of celebration or time of the year, fireworks are illegal in Contra Costa County," police said in a release. "With current drought conditions, the fire danger is always a factor, and the use of these fireworks is extremely dangerous."

The suspect's identity has not yet been released.
