One person has been hospitalized following an electrical fire in an unoccupied unit at an East Bay senior living community, according to authorities.
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said on Thursday afternoon it had "knocked down" a fire at Hookston Senior Apartments in Pleasant Hill. One burn victim was hospitalized, while authorities said three people in total were rescued from balconies.
Steve Hill, a spokesperson with the Contra Costa Fire Protection District, told KCBS Radio's Rebecca Corral in an interview on Wednesday afternoon that the fire was reported at 1:15 p.m. The fire was put out by 1:45, he said.
Hill said the unit that caught fire was "not occupied." The hospitalized victim also sustained smoke inhalation, according to Hill.
Investigators determined the fire was "electrical in nature," according to the Fire Protection District. The hospitalized victim was the only one who sustained injuries, officials said.
