A couple of months ago, Richmond Police Chief Bisa French was placed on administrative leave in relation to a case where a 34-year-old man was accused of sex trafficking a teenage relative of French’s.

On Monday, an Alameda County Judge dismissed those charges due to insufficient evidence, according to reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Oho McNair, who also goes by the name of Joe Goldman, was charged in October around the time French was placed on leave. French alleged that McNair had been manipulating the young woman into sex work.

French’s female relative filed a restraining order against her and her husband, an Oakland police sergeant, also in October, alleging that French made threats against her and physically prevented her from seeing McNair, as previously reported by KCBS Radio.

The restraining order was granted, preventing the French’s from seeing her for two years.

But McNair, who was convicted in 2014 for another human trafficking charge, has been ordered to stay away from the young woman after being released in October on $100,000 bail, according to the paper.

The 18-year-old has denied that she is a victim of sex trafficking, viewing McNair as her "partner," the paper reported.

The City of Richmond previously referred to French’s leave as related to "an unfolding family situation."

"It's imperative that we let the investigations play out without distraction and in accordance with established protocols that assure an objective assessment of the facts," the city wrote in a statement in October.

Neither French's lawyer nor did Alameda County Superior Court respond to KCBS Radio's request for comment at the time of publication.
