SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – The coming rains could prove challenging for those living along the Russian River with the threat of flooding lingering well into next week.

Crews are taking advantage of the brief break in the rain on Friday to work to clean up the destruction from the last storm.
Strong winds have knocked down more trees and downed power lines than crews will be able to get to in just one night.
Even on Friday, there are still some live power lines down from the initial storm, showing the strain crews are facing to respond to these issues in a timely fashion.
While those who live on the river are used to the occasional flood, the force of the winds with this most recent storm was unexpected.
Tree branches were falling down left and right, sometimes crashing into people’s houses.
While the respite from the rain on Friday helped the river from flooding at the moment, the upcoming storms have residents worried.
The upcoming rain could not only push the river into the flood stage, but also to the critical 35-foot level by Monday.
"That's the range that requires action by everybody because at that stage the river’s floods will affect businesses, residences, and other property owners along the edges of the river," said Sonoma County Fire District Chief Mark Hine.
Even without the flooding on Friday, people should still avoid the river right now.
"The Russian River, although it is not at flood stage is running extremely fast," he said. "Very dangerous to be anywhere near the edges of that river."
