Plans for a restaurant to return to the Cliff House overlooking San Francisco's Ocean Beach are currently in the works.
For 154 years the Lands End spot was famously known as the Cliff House restaurant until the pandemic forced its closure in March of 2020.
At the time, the restaurant closed in mid-March once stay-at-home orders hit the region. Although the restaurant tried implementing a takeout-only operation during the summer, it wasn't economically feasible, ending after only 10 weeks.

Project officials report that the new restaurant will most likely make its debut in the fall of 2022.
"We expect for a lease to begin later in 2022 and for a restaurant to open shortly after," Julian Espinoza from the National Park Service told KCBS Radio.

Former operators own the trademark Cliff House name, so the restaurant will be called something different.
However, the excitement to reawaken the historic spot remains.
The famous restaurant first opened 157 years ago.
The original Cliff House building was destroyed in a fire on Christmas Day 1894. While an eight-story structure was built at the site and lasted through the 1906 earthquake, it burned again in 1907 before being rebuilt.
