San Francisco Supervisor Catherine Stefani has proposed renaming a city street after an elderly Asian man who died after being violently pushed to the ground in January.

Stefani on Tuesday introduced a resolution that would rename in Sonora Lane in the Anza Vista neighborhood, just south of Geary Blvd. and east of Masonic Ave., as Vicha Ratanapakdee Way, according to Bay City News.

Ratanapakdee emigrated from Thailand to San Francisco. He lived in the Anza Vista neighborhood with his family and was 84 when he died earlier this year.

San Francisco police in arrested two suspects in connection with the assault on Jan. 28. Antoine Watson, 19, pled not guilty in February to charges of murder and elder abuse causing death. Maylasia Goo, 20, was arrested in January for being an accessory after the fact.

Ratanapakdee died on Jan. 30.

Stefani, pointing to several attacks on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the Bay Area, said "our friends and neighbors should not have to fear the unthinkable when they walk our streets."

Ratanapakdee's family and the San Francisco-based Southeast Asian Development Center backed the resolution.
