A staggering 75 percent of San Francisco's severe traffic accidents and fatalities occur in the Tenderloin.

The neighborhood only makes up 13 percent of the city's streets, but still produces that level of bad accidents, per SFMTA. There's a new proposal being considered to reduce the speed limit in the neighborhood to 20 MPH.

The proposal will be voted on in March and is expected to pass, according to San Francisco Supervisor Matt Haney. It would affect streets like Larkin, Jones, Ellis, O'Farrell, Geary, Post and more between Van Ness and Market.

If approved, the changes would take effect this spring in the Tenderloin.

The city would also see new "no turn on red" signs at 54 intersections.
