With a storm brewing in the Bay Area, now is a good time to prepare your cars and houses for the heavy rain that is expected for the rest of the week.

The coming rain kept the staff busy at AutoZone in San Francisco's Mission District, as they helped drivers gear up for the wet weather.

"Yeah, we've been busy. We have been selling a lot of snow chains, a lot of wiper blades," Luis, the location's manager, told KCBS Radio on Monday.

The store sold about 100 pairs of wiper blades in the couple of days preceding Monday, he estimated.

"You definitely need that because you need some good vision, especially when it is raining hard," he said of the wipers, which cost about $35 a pop. "And if those wipers are not wiping good enough and that water starts blocking your sight, you are not going to be able to see what is going on in front of you and it can be really dangerous. You don't want to bump into another car or hit a tree."

With the heavy rain, comes flooding.

The San Francisco Department of Public Works has warned drivers to be aware of gutters clogged with leaves that can make roads prone to flooding. Beth Rubenstein, Deputy Director of Policy and Communications at San Francisco Public Works, told KCBS Radio that drivers would be wise to avoid puddles "because you do not know how deep that is."

Rubenstein said sandbags are also available to help residents protect their home. The department will distribute sandbags on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the intersection of Marin Street and Kansas Streets.

"Really important if you live in low-lying areas," Rubenstein told KCBS Radio. "You want to protect yourselves from flooding, and San Francisco Public Works is again distributing sandbags to help with that."
