San Francisco officials are appealing to the Bay Area to trade in their guns in a buyback event on Saturday.
From a toddler sitting in a car on the freeway to a former cop providing security to a TV news crew, gun violence is continuing to claim lives. If you own a gun and have ever considered getting rid of it, here is your chance.

"I lost my best friend at 19-years-old to a suicide," San Francisco Supervisor Matt Haney said during a press conference. "He shot and killed himself because he had access to a gun. If you have a gun in a home, please consider bringing it to the gun buyback this Saturday. Even if you think this will never be used in an act of violence, somebody could be hurt or die."
The event will be held at 1038 Howard St. from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Handguns may be traded in for $100 and assault rifles for $200. The guns will be melted down and turned into jewelry and other items, while the proceeds will go to future gun buybacks.
Rudy Corpuz is the founder of the violence prevention corporation, United Playaz, which has been running the events for ten years.
"No questions asked," he said. "Come pull up. We gon’ give you your cash and you just could bounce." Those wishing to trade in a gun will not be asked for their ID or any other information.
