The San Jose Police Department arrested Bryan Velasquez, 43, last Thursday on felony stalking charges, officials announced in a press release on Tuesday. Police also seized a pair of assault rifles, the aforementioned ammunition, high-capacity magazines, tactical body armor and ghost gun materials after obtaining a gun violence restraining order.

Sgt. Christian Camarillo, a public information officer with the department, said in an emailed media advisory that Velasquez's arrest "prevented a mass casualty incident."

Police announced they had arrested Velasquez, who is due in court on June 6 for a gun violence hearing, two days prior to the anniversary of a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority employee shooting and killing nine workers and himself at an agency rail yard.

Velasquez was fired in January. The company then told police in April that Velasquez had stalked multiple co-workers.

Police alleged the San Jose resident posted pictures of himself "pointing firearms on social media" and emailed his former colleagues profane messages that revealed "intimate knowledge" of their homes and daily habits.

One of Velasquez's former colleagues told police he believed the 43-year-old "to be the next VTA shooter based on his behavior," according to an arrest warrant obtained by KNTV. The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office didn't respond to KCBS Radio's emailed request for comment prior to publication on Tuesday afternoon.
