In a move that is becoming all too common across Northern California, San Jose Water is urging customers to conserve water due to California's drought emergency.

Santa Clara County’s Valley Water supply agency has announced a 15% mandatory conservation for all residents, businesses and customers.

According to a release, the rules which begin July 9 limit watering to two days a week for lawns and plants, no more than 15 minutes per day, and no watering between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Residents are asked to use commercial car washing facilities because they use recycled water or a recirculating water system.

"During every drought, our customers have done extraordinarily well-saving water to meet our local emergency conditions. We ask them again to put conservation at the forefront so we can meet the 15% goal," said Andy Gere, the agency's President and Chief Operating Officer.

San Jose Water will monitor water usage and if the conservation goal is not achieved by August 31, the company could alter restrictions.
