A three month investigation led to the arrest of a San Mateo man earlier this week for allegedly raping a teenage girl, among other sex crimes, according to the county sheriff’s office.

Police began a sexual assault investigation into 21-year-old Miguel Mendez-Marin in May, which revealed that he was involved in a romantic relationship with a 14-year-old minor.

Authorities said Mendez-Marin engaged in unlawful sex with the girl, including an occasion where he raped her against her will and a separate instance where he sodomized her at her residence.

The suspect forcibly resisted initial attempts by detectives to arrest him at his residence Wednesday, resulting in minor injuries to one officer. Deputies were eventually able to apprehend him and placed him under arrest.

Mendez-Marin was booked at the Maguire Correctional Facility on charges of rape by force, sodomy of a minor under, sex with a minor under 16 and resisting an executive officer.

The sheriff’s office also said that Mendez-Marin has committed crimes against other underage girls and encourage any other victims to call Detective C. Serrano at 650-363-4066 or email him at serrano@smcgov.org.
