Nicole Fitts was found buried in MacLaren Park in San Francisco by parks and recreation workers on April 8, 2016. A missing persons report had been filed for her, and her 2-year-old daughter, Arianna Fitts, just a few days prior.
At the time of Nicole's death, Arianna had been in the care of her babysitter and her babysitter’s husband. Nicole, a single mother of two, had been working at Best Buy at the time and was trying to secure a more stable situation for her family.
In the initial investigation, it was revealed that Nicole had been lured to meet the babysitter on April 1, 2016, after which she'd disappeared.
Arianna has not been seen since and it's unclear where she is.
"It's been 6 years of heartache and uncertainty for their family, their friends, and their entire community. Today we are asking for the public’s assistance to help us find Arianna Fitts and bring her home," said FBI ASAC Scott Schelble at the press conference.
Over the last several months, new interviews have led to new leads and uncovered more evidence, said Schelble.
"We do not believe Arianna was with her mother at the time of Nicole's death, but we do believe Arianna's disappearance and Nicole's murder are connected," he said.
The FBI and SFPD released a photo of Arianna from around the time she went missing as well as an age progression image of what Arianna may look like now at age 8.
A vigil will be held Friday at 4 p.m. by Nicole's family at MacLaren Park.
Anyone with information regarding Nicole Fitts' murder or Arianna's disappearance is asked to contact the FBI at http://tips.fbi.gov or the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 575-4444.
