Salman Shariat lives on Bay Street in San Francisco's Marina. He revealed a new mural this week painted top to bottom on his home showing support for those protesting in Iran.

When KCBS Radio visited the home on Wednesday, Shariat was speaking to a man in Farsi who was taking pictures of the new mural.

"He just said this is a very good thing that you did," Shariat told KCBS Radio. "That's what I've gotten a lot from all people."

That's his goal — to reach as many people as possible with the green, white and red mural that reads "Women, Life, Freedom, Free Iran." The painting is in support of a month of protests over the death of a young woman, whose family said she was beaten by the country’s morality police.

"Fleet Week was coming up and I knew there'd be a lot of people around across the street from Bay and Gough in Fort Mason, so I thought that'd be a really good way to just spread it quickly and make people aware," Shariat explained.

He said that's all many of us can do. Even if you don't have as large of a canvas as Shariat, "keeping it alive, keeping the fire burning, keeping it aware. That's what this is for, that's what the painting is for," he said.
