A small number of self-described socialists held a protest in San Francisco on Saturday to decry Wednesday’s invasion of the U.S. Capitol and call for a general strike by workers.

There were about two dozen people from the United Front Committee for a Labor Party holding signs and speaking in the city’s downtown.

They were incensed about the symbolism from the takeover earlier this week by supporters of President Donald Trump at Capitol Hill.

“The reason there were confederate flags there is they believe in that,” said protester Steve. “They believe in racism. They believe in segregation and they are attacking, not just people in Washington, they are attacking people all over this country. Blacks, the Latino people who have been murdered by the police. There’s an escalation of terrorism against Blacks and Latinos.”

Steve told KCBS Radio that Americans are really good at blaming others.

“The problem is not the Russians,” he added. “The problem is right here in this country. It’s right here in this country.”

The speakers all called for a strike, but did not make clear the goal.

They also aired their grievances about capitalism, President Trump, the Republican Party, Democrats, Governor Gavin Newsom and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

“How could you not know that you yourself would be under threat?” said Steve, discussing Pelosi. “So, when she blames the police in the Capitol for this – no it’s not just the police. She had a responsibility to protect the Capitol. She’s in charge of the police at the Capitol. So you have to ask, why didn’t she do anything?”
