A San Francisco elementary school teacher has been identified as the victim in a two-vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian Wednesday morning, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
At around 7:55 a.m., San Francisco police responded to the intersection of Franklin St. and Union St. after receiving a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they found Andrew Zieman, a paraeducator at Sherman Elementary School, suffering from life-threatening injuries near one of the vehicles. They gave him emergency aid, but despite their life-saving efforts, Zieman succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The paraeducator passed away across the street from the elementary school where he taught. Zieman marks the 12th pedestrian death in San Francisco in 2021. "We are struggling to understand this tragic loss of life, especially since he meant so much to so many students, families, and staff," Principal Helen Parker said in a letter obtained by the newspaper. "Andrew taught from the heart. He was patient and kind, and always a positive role model."
Walk San Francisco nonprofit and the San Francisco Bay Area Families for Safe Streets community are offering support to Zieman's family and friends however possible.
"Too many people are paying the ultimate price for unsafe streets," Jodie Medeiros, executive director of Walk San Francisco, said in a press release. "Dangerous speeds on our streets threaten all of us, and the city has to address this with urgency."
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
