With Election Day fast approaching and the North Bay wildfires creating new challenges for voters, Sonoma County has taken extra steps to make sure everyone has the opportunity to vote.

Sonoma residents impacted by the LNU Lightning Complex Fire or the Glass Fire will still have plenty of chances to cast their ballots.

For those who have suffered property loss, election mail will not be forwarded, and will be returned to county offices.

For those expecting to get back home in the coming days, Deva Marie Proto with the Sonoma County Registrar said ballots will arrive.

“It’s likely that that ballot will be held with the rest of their mail,” Proto told KCBS Radio. “That’s what USPS is telling us - that those ballots will not be effected.”

Those with a change of address can make the edit in-person, following ID verification, or can vote-in person.

“They can choose to come into our office, not worry about the mail ballot and just vote in-person starting on Monday,” said Proto.

With so many ways to vote, Proto said they do make sure only one vote is cast per person.
