Solidarity rallies in support of Ukraine are taking place throughout the country Thursday, including on the Stanford University campus in Santa Clara County.
At noon, a crowd of more than one hundred students gathered inside Stanford main quad, with many hoisting Ukraine's blue and yellow flag in the air.

The students, many with close ties to Ukraine, spoke of their fear and anger as family members still living in the country face the Russian attack.
"My sister woke up in Kiev, which is the capital, from the air strikes," said one speaker. "This is a new reality."

Student organizer Catarina Buchatskiy, who was born in Kiev, told KCBS Radio the show of solidarity is inspiring.
"It shows that this is not just about something my family, my best friend is going through, but people can show support for strangers and realizing that people can feel our struggle even if they're not necessarily connected to it, that means a lot," she said.
Organizers called for donations to pro-Ukrainian causes — such as Nova Ukraine, a Palo Alto based nonprofit providing humanitarian aid on the ground — and for political support in sanctioning Russia.
