San Francisco Police are still searching for a man they believe shot three men, killing two, in Potrero Hill last month.
The department said Thursday that homicide investigators identified Robert Newt, 32, as the suspect in two shootings that police responded to within hours on May 15.
Just after 10 a.m. that day, officers at 25th St. and Connecticut St. found a 61-year-old man who had sustained gunshot wounds and transported him to a nearby hospital.
At around 12:26 p.m., officers in the area responded to reports of gunshots on Dakota St., finding two men – 49 and 54, respectively – who had been shot. The two victims were also taken to a nearby hospital.
The 61-year-old Darryl Haynes and 54-year-old Randy Armstrong, identified by the San Francisco Medical Examiner, died of their injuries. The 49-year-old remains hospitalized.
Newt is 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, according to police. Investigators have obtained three arrest warrants: One for attempted homicide, and two for homicide.
San Francisco police first issued Newt's mugshot last month, less than a year after instituting a policy to largely stop doing so in order to prevent racial bias. The department told the San Francisco Chronicle last month that releasing Newt's photo was allowed under their policy because of "the need to alert the public and seek public assistance in locating Newt."

Police said he "is known to frequent" Bayview-Hunters Point and asked the public to immediately call 911 if he is seen. They said anyone with information can contact the department’s tip line.
