Three rescued after 12 foot aluminum boat sinks in San Francisco Bay

Three people were rescued from the San Francisco Bay after a 12 foot aluminum boat sank near Alcatraz Island Sunday afternoon.

San Francisco Fire Department officials said the boat took on water, capsized and subsequently sank. The SFFD, San Francisco Police Department and U.S. Coast Guard responded shortly before 3 p.m.

"San Francisco Fire Department Rescue Boat One located a vessel that was sinking, with three occupants reported to be on board," said Jonathan Baxter, with the SFFD. "Two of those occupants were rescued by a civilian vessel."

SFFD officials said all victims were safe on a rescue boat as of 3:30 p.m., shortly after the third person was reported missing.

"We were able to locate the third adult victim, rescue him from the water," Baxter told KCBS Radio.

All three victims were treated by paramedics and will be alright, he added.

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
