San Francisco canceled the fireworks just days before New Year's Eve. Should we be changing our own plans?
If you are asking permission from UCSF Infectious Disease expert, Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, his response will be that you do not have to stay home. But, he said you do have to "up your COVID-19 game."

"If you look at the data, 30 percent of people are protected from infection after two doses of vaccine, 80 percent after three shots, including the booster," Chin-Hong told KCBS Radio's "As Prescribed."
Since those numbers are not 100 percent, he suggests taking extra precautions, such as limiting the size of your group.
"Some people think about the magic number 10 - making sure that all the people in your party are vaccinated and boosted, and maybe doing more testing," he said.
If you are going to be indoors, Chin-Hong said it is a good idea to "up your mask game," too.
"So, even though I love my cloth mask, and you can put different patterns, bling, color-coordinate for New Year's, I think double-masking (and) putting the boring one first - the surgical mask - then the colorful one on the outside is what is a little bit safer for risky environments," he suggested.
