The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has been the victim of a cyberattack, forcing some the agency's computer systems to go offline.

It's not clear if any personal information, belonging to customers or VTA employees, was breached. VTA Spokesperson Stacey Hendler Ross told KCBS Radio they believe they've been able to contain the attack.

It was not immediately clear where the hack originated.

Employee email and real-time arrival information remain disabled. The systems "will be brought back online when they're cleared for use," she said.

VTA's day-to-day buses and light rail trains are still running.

"Our technology department detected it and I don't have the details on exactly how. When they noticed something was happening that was off, they immediately shut down our major technology systems as a protective measure," Ross explained. VTA "will move quickly to notify the appropriate parties" if it is determined personal data was breached in any way, she added.

The story was first reported by The Mercury News.
