SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – The Bay Area is preparing for a massive region-wide party on Monday to celebrate the Golden State Warriors winning their fourth NBA championship in eight years.

However, unlike previous years when the team was located in Oakland, this championship club's parade will be held in San Francisco.

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown joined KCBS Radio's Melissa Culross and Jason Brooks on Friday morning to discuss the significance of the Warriors’ parade happening in the City by the Bay for the first time in franchise history.

"I think for the first time in a very long time there's going to be a celebration like you've not seen before," Brown said. "In fact, the Warriors know how to do it." He added that there were scores of people watching the game outside Chase Center during the Finals because they couldn't afford the sky-high ticket prices. Now that everyone can celebrate the team free of charge, he asked, "Can you imagine what they'e going to do?"

The parade will begin at 11:20 a.m. near the Ferry Building at Market and Main Streets before ending at Market and 6th Streets.

"That is kind of a copycat of what we did when we honored Herb Caen," Brown said, referring to the legendary San Francisco journalist who was honored with a parade in the city following his death in 1997, when Brown was mayor.

Brown also quipped that after he left office, all his family members relocated to Oakland. Now that the Warriors and their parades are back in San Francisco, Brown is ecstatic.

"I am very pleased. They never should have left me!" he joked.
