The mayor of the Sonoma County Town of Windsor is facing increased calls to resign and now a formalized effort to force him out of office amid sexual assault accusations from six women.
He’s already lost his job with his family’s winery and it looks like he’ll lose another job.
The Windsor mayor, under fire for a number of wine-fueled sexual assault accusations - allegations he strongly denies - has been booted from the family winery, removed from several boards and commissions and face as a potential recall by voters.
"The allegations against Dominic Foppoli have been shocking and honestly revolting and disgusting," said Lynda Hopkins, chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors.
She told KCBS Radio the appointment last week of Foppoli, 38, to the Golden Gate Bridge Board of Directors will be revisited at Tuesday’s meeting.
"I think we all felt blindsided when these horrific allegations came out just a couple of days after the board had appointed him to a very influential, region-wide appointment to the Golden Gate Bridge District," she said.
Most of the allegations date back years, outside of the statute of limitations.
Still, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the Windsor mayor. Thus far, Foppoli has refused to resign from his position, despite numerous calls for him to do so.
Amid the pressure to resign, a new committee to recall the embattled mayor has been formed. Residents contend Foppoli can no longer effectively serve.
Tim Zahner lives in Windsor and chairs the campaign.
He told KCBS Radio the best outcome would be for Foppoli to resign from office. "People are disgusted," he said. "There's absolutely no space for this kind of behavior in public life of Windsor."
The allegations were first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
