A written statement from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital described a campus-wide power outage, stating they were operating on generator power. The power outage was likely due to the intense wind that blew through the Bay Area on Tuesday.
"Last night lights flickering, power went out, 10 p.m. last night and then we were running on a generator," said a man who identified himself to KCBS as a hospital worker. "Power, microwave, T.V., fridge, out of service," he said.
The hospital remained open for critical services, but some non-urgent medical appointments and procedures were rescheduled.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the hospital provided the following update to KCBS:
"Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is now back on commercial power throughout the campus after a power service outage that began yesterday," officials wrote in a statement. "The hospital was operating on generator power. The hospital is continually assessing for impacts to patients and operations. The hospital remains open for all critical services, including Trauma, the Emergency Department, and urgent care. Some non-urgent medical appointments and procedures are being rescheduled. UCSF has a number of research facilities on campus and there are no impacts to the security, safety or efficacy of research on campus."
Editor's note: an earlier version of this article incorrectly identified the hospital worker who spoke to KCBS as a "hospital spokesperson." We apologize for the error.
