Two nurses accused of taking nude photos of patients arrested

Two former nurses face charges after being accused of “taking and sharing inappropriate pictures of patients.”

Greensburg City Police and the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office say Peter Castellano of Pittsburgh and Melissa Tompkins of Whitehall, both 36-years-old, are charged with invasion of privacy, harassment and more.

An investigation as launched after officials were contacted by Independence Health Westmoreland Hospital after staff “became aware of a group text among several employees that allegedly showed improper care of patients.”

Investigators found video and audio recording, along with images of elderly patients in “varying degrees of nudity.”

Polices say up to eight patients were recorded by Castellano and four were recorded by Tompkins.

Independence Health fired Castellano and Tompkins after the allegations were reported.

They are also charged with disclosing intercepted communications, criminal use of a communication facility.
