It was meant for the UFC Freedom 250 event

The FBI and partner agencies disrupted an alleged plot to attack the UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House South Lawn using explosive drones, with five people now in federal custody. The multi-phased plan was uncovered ahead of the high-profile mixed martial arts card held June 14, 2026, as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations and President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

According to law enforcement officials, the suspects planned to use drones to strike nearby buildings and create chaos, followed by sniper fire on crowds and a ground assault on a White House gate. FBI Director Kash Patel credited swift, multi-state coordination for stopping the threat before the event, which drew about 4,300 attendees including 1,200 service members. The fights proceeded smoothly under heavy security with no injuries or incidents reported.

The investigation identified 23 additional individuals of interest. Court documents and briefings indicate the plotters discussed targeting “capitalist elites,” billionaires, and certain politicians in online communications. The event itself featured several high-profile bouts on a specially constructed octagon, marking the first professional UFC card held on the White House grounds.

Federal authorities emphasized that enhanced counter-drone measures and intelligence sharing played a key role in protecting the high-visibility gathering in Washington, D.C. The arrests come amid broader security concerns for large public events during the semiquincentennial celebrations.
