Four people have died during the U.S. Capitol attack after pro-Trump supporters descended onto the U.S. Capitol Wednesday in Washington D.C., storming the iconic building wreaking havoc, looting furniture and causing mayhem.
According to the D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee in a news conference on Thursday, the three additional deaths were a 55-year-old from Alabama, a 50-year-old from Pennsylvania and 34-year-old from Georgia.
A woman, Ashli Babbitt, was shot by gunfire from Capitol Police inside the building, according to the chief and various news reports. She was from the San Diego area and an Air Force veteran and was a President Trump supporter.
Contee said 68 people have been arrested Wednesday by MPD.
“We still have a significant amount of work ahead of us to identify each and every one of the violent mob accountable for their actions. We have collected numerous images of persons of interests that we are asking the community to help us identify,” Contee said.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is calling for an investigation into why the Capitol was breached -- and why there wasn't enough law enforcement presence. Mayor Bowser also called yesterday's riot "domestic terrorism -- saying President Trump wanted the violent unrest to happen.
The events on Wednesday unfolded as lawmakers were in the middle of confirming the Electoral College vote for Joe Biden’s election. In the early morning Thursday Congress confirmed Joe Biden’s victory.
Two pipe bombs were also discovered as well as long guns and Molotov cocktails, according to Contee via NBC News.
