While being on social media can cost your free time and often your sanity, sometimes, it pays, like when you see funny memes or cute dogs. But this time, it’s paying in cash thanks to a settlement of $725 million.

The settlement comes from Cambridge Analytica’s privacy-class action lawsuit against Facebook, which has now agreed to pay anyone in the United States who has had a Facebook account in the last 15 years.

The money from the settlement will then be split up by those who had their privacy violated by Facebook, being that they submit a claim for their share.

Claims can be made through Facebook’s website for the settlement and will be accepted until Aug. 25, 2023.

Anyone planning how they’re going to spend their chunk of the $725 million should slow down, as it isn’t known exactly how much each person will get, being that it depends on how many claims are submitted.

A judge is expected to approve the final details of the settlement at a hearing scheduled for Sept. 7, 2023. Once the court approves the settlement, the site says payments “will be distributed as soon as possible.”

Those submitting claims are given the option to receive the payment in a number of ways, from direct deposit into a bank account to a prepaid gift card.

To be eligible, Facebook users had to have lived in the US and had an account from May 24, 2007, through Dec. 22, 2022. Even if an account is inactive, the user is still eligible.

The submission form takes moments to fill out and asks for your name, address, and email associated with your account. To submit the paperwork, visit the site here.
