Looking to improve the speed of your desktop? Then feast your eyes on the newest Intel product with "the fastest processor available."
Intel announced on Monday that they will be releasing the 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900KS on April 5 with a hefty price tag of $739.
The product runs up to 5.5 GHz max turbo frequency, and is catered towards giving video game players the fastest processor yet.
Marcus Kennedy, general manager of Gaming, Creator & Esports Segment at Intel, said in a statement that it's ideal for "the most extreme gamers."
"Intel continues to push the envelope for desktop gaming with the new 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900KS processor," Kennedy said. "Based on Intel’s 12th Gen performance hybrid architecture, this processor can hit 5.5 GHz on up to two cores for the first time, giving the most extreme gamers the ability to maximize performance."
The i9-12900KS processor has 16 cores (eight Performance-cores and eight Efficient-cores) and 24 threads. It also has a 150W processor base power and 30MB Intel Smart Cache.
Intel calls the i9-12900KS a "special edition processor" and it "allows gamers and overclocking enthusiasts to take performance to the next level."
Intel does have some competition for the world's fastest processor, as the AMD Ryzen 7 58300X 3D was announced on March 15 for just $449 and was said to be the "world's fastest gaming CPU." Intel's newest model appears to be faster, but clearly more expensive.
"Intel has a good case that its latest model is now on top, as it has a much higher maximum clock speed (5.5GHz compared to 4.5GHz)," according to Engadget.
Since there is such a big difference in price between the two computers, it'll be interesting to see people compare the two once they are released, especially the gamers that intend to play on these devices for countless hours.
