If you are looking for Jeffrey Dahmer-inspired clothing for your Halloween costume, one place specifically does not have it.
eBay has taken steps to remove clothing that pays homage to Dahmer.
The auction site has policies that prohibit "listings that promote or glorify violence or violent acts, or are associated with individuals who are notorious for committing violent acts."
The policy posted on their site goes on to say there's no space for "items closely associated with or benefiting violent felons, their acts, or crime scenes within the past 100 years."
eBay explains that it enforces the policy "out of respect for victims of violent crimes."
Prior to being removed, multiple listings on the site included replicas of Dahmer's signature wire-rimmed eyeglasses, blonde wigs and retro clothing for sale.
Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys, most of whom were people of color. He earned the nicknames "Milwaukee Cannibal" and "Milwaukee Monster" for the particular brutalities of his crimes. In 1992, he was convicted of 16 murders and sentenced to life in prison. Two years later, he was beaten to death by a fellow inmate.
Interest in Dahmer has grown recently following the release of Netflix's hit miniseries "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story." Despite heavy backlash, the true crime series quickly became the most watched show on the streaming platform.
The series stars Evan Peters as Dahmer alongside co-stars Niecey Nash as neighbor Glenda Cleveland and Molly Ringwald as the killer's stepmother, Shari Dahmer.
One of the victim's mothers said it hurts to see Netflix and online stores profit from her son's death. Shirley Hughes, whose son Tony was murdered by Dahmer in 1991, called costumers inspired by the killer "evil."
"If Netflix hadn't streamed the show… none of the families would be revictimized… and then there'd be no Dahmer costumes this year," she said, per The Cut.
