A criminal indictment of a former U.S. President, a historic if dubious first in American history, was always going to be a polarizing proposition in the 2023 political climate.
But as Donald Trump awaits his day in court on 34 felony charges related to the falsification of business records and hush-money payments over an illicit sexual escapade between Trump and adult film actress Stormy Daniels, some of his supporters are allegedly lobbing death threats at those who could control his fate.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who will be prosecuting Trump on those 34 charges, has reportedly been receiving threats for weeks in the form of letters, emails and phone calls.
Now, Judge Juan Merchan, who will oversee the case against Trump, has also received threats via social media, according to CBS News.
As a result, extra security has been installed at the Manhattan criminal courthouse.
And those threats could continue for some time. Trump’s criminal trial in New York could still be as much as a year away from actually getting underway. Currently, Trump is not scheduled to appear before the court again until December 4, when Marchan will rule on motions from both sides.
