Krispy Kreme doesn't want anyone's eyes to glaze over at the thought of getting vaccinated against COVID-19, especially when you donut need to be fully vaccinated to be eligible for the national chain's latest offer.
Starting Monday, Krispy Kreme will offer two free glazed donuts to anyone who shows proof of vaccination at a participating store. One donut is a standard glazed, and the other is heart-shaped, as the company encourages customers to share the latter with a friend or family member and "be sweet" to their community.
The promotion runs through Sept. 5, and customers are eligible to redeem it once per day, with no other purchase required. As long as you've received at least one dose of the two-shot Pfizer and Moderna vaccines or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and you bring your U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention vaccination record, the donuts are yours.
You can find the full list of participating shops here.
In March, Krispy Kreme said it would offer a free donut per day through the rest of 2021 to anyone who showed their vaccine card. Customers were limited to one donut per day, but they were eligible to redeem the offer each day for the remainder of the year. The company said Wednesday it has already given out 2.5 million donuts to vaccinated customers.
On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved full use of the two-dose Pfizer vaccine for all Americans aged 16 and older. Anyone over the age of 12 is eligible to receive one of the three vaccines under the agency’s emergency use authorization, with 60.5% of Americans fully vaccinated so far, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Data.
Krispy Kreme seems to hope unvaccinated Americans who can't take advantage of the promotion are jelly enough of their vaccinated friends and family who can.
"We all hoped we'd be near the end of this pandemic by now. We're not. So, please consider getting vaccinated if you've not done so already," Chief Marketing Officer Dave Skena said in a release. "And then enjoy and share two amazing doughnuts with our (heartfelt) thanks."
